How to get there

How to get here

One thing that makes Martha's Vineyard so special is how you get here! There are three main options:

1.) Fly directly into Martha's Vineyard Airport (MVY)

Cape Air, Jet Blue and Delta all fly to Martha's Vineyard. Direct flights are available from Boston Logan, JFK, LGA, Providence, RI amongst others

2.) Steamship Authority ferry from Cape Cod

You will need to get to the Steamship Authority ferry dock in Woods Hole, MA. Boats leave from Woods Hole roughly hourly from the early morning until 9:45 pm, arriving in either Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven. Either arrival port will get you to the vineyard.  The ferry schedule is at www.steamshipauthority.com.

Ways to get to the Steamship Authority Ferry

  • You can take a Peter Pan bus from Boston Logan airport or South Station right to the ferry dock. The ride is about 2 hours from Boston. If you plan to go without a car, you can purchase your ferry ticket right at the counter and get on the ferry, no reservation needed.

  • You can plan to bring your car (or rental car) to the island. You will need to contact the Steamship Authority and schedule a car reservation for the dates and times of your travel.

  • If you plan to drive down to the Steamship Authority ferry dock, but would like to leave your car in Cape Cod, please note, there is no parking at the ferry dock. You will need to park your car at 286 Palmer Avenue, Falmouth, MA 02540 and take the shuttle bus directly to the ferry dock.

3.) Other ferries

Seastreak operates ferries from East 35th St. in Manhattan to Oak Bluffs. The ferry leaves New York on Friday afternoon and returns on Sunday. The schedule is at https://seastreak.com/ferry-routes-and-schedules/between-new-jersey-new-york-city-marthas-vineyard.

There are also ferries that leave from New Bedford (Seastreak) and Rhode Island (Vineyard Fast Ferry), both of which are accessible by Peter Pan bus from New York's Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Once you are on the island, you can take a deep breath because you've made it!

There are plenty of cabs or Uber drivers able to take you to your hotel.

What is the best way to get to Martha's Vineyard?

Ferries are the most popular way but you can also fly into the MVY airport. Please visit our "how to get here" page for details.

Do I need to bring a car?

The short answer is, it really depends. If you are staying far from the birthday festivities, you may want the freedom of your own car. If you are using this as an opportunity for a vacation and possibly extending your stay, you may want to have a vehicle to get around.

However taxis, buses, Ubers and bikes are readily available. Most festivities will be hosted centrally in Oak Bluffs to help with planning your trip.

What town should I stay in?

Most festivities are in Oak Bluffs. However Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs are the most popular towns for visitors. There is a lot of sightseeing and things to do in these "down-island" towns.

How soon should we book our hotel/Airbnb?

As soon as you can. Hotels tend to book early as Martha's Vineyard is a popular vacation destination.

What is "up-island"?

The up-island towns of West Tisbury, Chilmark, Menemsha and Aquinnah are located in more rural areas of the Vineyard. They are beautiful and worth the trip. It can take about forty minutes to drive from these towns to Edgartown, Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven. Bus services is available, but limited with times of travel.

What is the dress code and what will the weather be like this time of year?

Dress code is vineyard chic.

August tends to be beautiful on the island, the average temperature is 75 degrees.

How can I get to the venue?

The Friday evening dinner is at the Sweet Life Cafe in Oak Bluffs.

You can either walk from your Oak Bluffs hotel or take a taxi, uber or lyft.
